Myths Galore

I have always been fascinated by myths, I mean any myth, Roman, Native American. Any myth! But I love Greek, I think it's very interesting, I mean they all had power over a certain thing! My favorite Greek god is Poseidon I love the ocean and Poseidon has control over it. it's really cool (in my opinion). I used to pronounce a whole bunch of names wrong like I called Hermes, Herms and Poseidon, Poisidon (poisidawn) my parents had a laugh over that.

I thought It was pretty disgusting when Kronos ate his own children but who could blame him, when he was in control of everything and told his own son would overthrow him. For those who don't know the ending: Kronos's wife tricked him into eating a rock when Kronos thought he was eating Zeus. Zeus grew up in secret and eventually went to overthrow his father, Zeus gave him a magic potion that made it so he burped up his siblings. Now understand that they wore immortal and just grew up in Kronos's belly. Kronos was cut into a million tiny pieces and thrown into tartarus (which is the darkest part of the under world). I get adrenaline just recalling the tale.

see why I love Greek mythology so much? It's awesome isn't it? I LOVE greek mythology.

want another story? If so read on, if not, STOP READING!

Glad you want more, okay here goes: Aphrodite the goddess of love was married to Haphaestus the god blacksmith, but Aphrodite didn't intend to stay faithful to him. She was the goddess of love after all, she wears a magic girdle around her neck that makes any mortal fall in love with her. Once Aphrodite found herself at a wedding. Eris goddess of discourt brought a golden apple labled MOST BEAUTIFUL Aphrodite assumed that was her but Hera, Zeus's wife thought she was most beatiful, but Athena goddess of war and wisdom thought she was most beautiful, Paris a mortal man was supposed to be the judge. He chose Aphrodite as the most beautiful. In return Aphrodite made the princess of Troy fall in love with Paris (Paris wasn't from Troy). The two ran off and got married starting the Trojan war. This was not the first time Aphrodite's meddling got men into trouble.

But enough about the goddess of love. There are other powerful females like Circe. Circe was exiled to a distant island named Aeaea, after she poisoned her husband. The hero Odysseus came to her island while looking for a cyclops named Polyphemus, when he landed on her island Circe turned all his sailors into pigs, on his way to confront Circe he met Hermes the messenger of the gods he gave him a herb that made him immune to magic, good thing to, Circe attempted to turn Odysseus into a pig too but failed thanks to the herb. Odysseus forced Circe to turn his men back to humans. Circe fell in love with Odysseus and gave him very valuable information without it Oddysseus would have perished. She convinced him to stay with her for a year. See! it's not just the men who are powerful.

I think I've written enough. Oh, and by the way

I really loved Greek mythology as a kid as well. Papa J took several greek mythology classes in college and had some books. You should see if he still does. And we need to plan a screening of "Clash of the Titans" at the Majefstic theatre.
